SOLUTION

GIVEN

(11,y) is a point on the line joining A(3,1) , B(5,4)

TO DETERMINE

The value of y

EVALUATION

Here the given two points are A(3,1) , B(5,4)

So the equation of the line AB is

 \displaystyle \sf{ \frac{y - 4}{x - 5}  =  \frac{4 - 1}{5 - 3} }

 \displaystyle \sf{  \implies \: \frac{y - 4}{x - 5}  =  \frac{3}{2} }

 \displaystyle \sf{  \implies \: 3x - 15 = 2y - 8}

 \displaystyle \sf{  \implies \: 3x -  2y  = 7}

Now (11,y) is a point on the line AB

 \displaystyle \sf{  \implies \: (3 \times 11) -  2y  = 7}

 \displaystyle \sf{  \implies \: 33 -  2y  = 7}

 \displaystyle \sf{  \implies \:  2y  =26}

 \displaystyle \sf{  \implies \: y = 13}

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the required value of y = 13
