Answer:in a rectangle opposite sides are equal

x + 3y = 13_____(1)

3x + y = 7______(2)

subtracting (2) from (1)

-2x + 2y = 6

2 (y-x) = 6

y-x = 3 ____(i)

also adding (1) and (2)

4x + 4y = 20

x + y = 5____(ii)

on solving i and ii we

get

x = 1

y = 4

Answer:

we know that opposite sides in a rectangle are equal therefore

x +3y =13....1

3x+y =7.......2

from 1; x = 13 - 3y .....3

substitute 3 in 2

3(13- y ) + y = 7

39 - 3y + y = 7

39 - 2y. =7

-2y = 7 - 39

-2y = -32

therefore y = 16

from 3 I.e., x= 13- 3y

x = 13 -3(16)

x = 13 - 48

x = -35

|x| = |-35|

x = 35
