12. 1200 soldiers in a fort had enough food for 28 days. After 4 days, some soldiers were
sent to another fort and thus, the food lasted for 32 more days. How many soldiers
left the fort? in indirect variations​

  • After 4 days the food would last for 1200 soldiers =28-4=4
  • Now we have

  • No. of soldiers. 1200. 1200-x
  • no. of days. 24. 32

  • when the no. of soldiers decrease the food last for more days.Thus inverse variation.
  • Therefore
  • 1200×24=(1200-x)×32
  • 1200 ×24/32=1200-x
  • 900=1200-x
  • x=1200-900
  • x=300
  • Therefore 300 soldiers left the fort.
