let a = 17 and b = 12

by using Euclid's division lemma

a = bq+r

17 = 12×1+5

12 = 5×2+2

5 = 2×2+1

2 = 1×2+0

therefore, the HCF of (12,17) is 1.

I hope it helps you!!^_^
