12.976g of lead combines with 2.004g of oxygen to form PbO2.PbO2 can also be produced by heating lead nitrate and it was found that the percentage of oxygen present in PbO2 is 13.38% . with the help of given information ,illustrate the law of constant composition.

In first case we find the mass % of O₂ in PbO₂
             Mass %=mass of component/mass of compound×100(in numerator)
                         =2.004/12.980×100
                         ≈13.38%

This shows that in PbO₂ there is 13.38% of O₂ present irrespective of source or method of making it. Therefore this justifies that O combines with Pb in fixed proportion.
