Answer:

Given : A car started from Town P and traveled towards Town Q at 70km/h.

a van started from Town Q and travelled to Town P 60km/h.

After 11/4 hours, I they were 65km apart, still traveling towards each other.

To Find : (1.) What is the distance between the two towns?

(2.) After how many hours of travel would they cross each other?

Solution:

car started from Town P and traveled towards Town Q at 70km/h.

Speed = 70 km/hr

Time = 11/4 hr

Distance = Speed  x Time

=> Distance = 70 x (11/4)

=> Distance  =  770/4

=> Distance = 192.5 km

a van started from Town Q and travelled to Town P 60km/h.

Speed = 60 km/hr

Time = 11/4 hr

Distance = Speed  x Time

=> Distance = 60 x (11/4)

=> Distance  =  660/4

=> Distance = 165 km

Distance between them =  65 km

distance between the two towns = 192.5 + 165 + 65

= 422.5 km

Distance covered by both together in 1 hr = 70 + 60 = 130 km

Time taken = 422.5 /130  = 3.25 hrs

= 13/4  hrs
