12. A pit 4 m long 4 m wide and 2.8 m deep is dug from a comer of a rectangular ground with
dimensions 20 m by 12 m. If the earth taken out is spread evenly over the remaining area of the

Rise in level of ground = 0.2 m

Given: Dimension of ground 20 m × 12 m

Dimension of pit which is dugged 4 m × 4 m × 2.8 m

To find : Rise in the level of ground.

Volume of Earth taken out from pit = Length × width × height

= 4 × 4 × 2.8

= 44.8 m³

volume of earth taken out = volume of earth spread

44.8 = volume of earth on ground - volume of

earth over pit

= 44.8 = 20 × 12 × h - 4 × 4 h

= 44.8 = ( 240 - 16 ) × h

= h = 0.2m

So, Rise in level ground is 0.2m .
