12. A plain carpet 10 m long and 6.5 m wide has a border of width 75 cm along each of its sides. Find the total area of the border.​

Plain carpet;

External dimensions

l = 10m = 1000cm

b = 6.5m = 650cm

Area of plain carpet = A1

A1 = 1000 × 650

= 650000cm²

Width of border along each side = 75cm

Internal dimensions

l = 1000-75

=925cm

b=650-75

=575cm

Area of carpet without border = A2

A2=925×575

= 531875cm²

Area of border = A1-A2

= 650000 - 531875

= 118,125cm²
