At present, the Election Commission of India is a three-member body, with one Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners.
Chief Election Commissioner of India can be removed from his office by the President on the basis of a resolution passed to that effect by both the houses of parliament with a two-thirds majority in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on the grounds of proved misbehavior or incapacity.

Composition of the Election Commission of India:
- The constitution says that there shall be a Chief Election Commissioner and such other Election Commissioners as the President may appoint from time to time. The Chief Election Commissioner shall act as the chairman of the election commission, when any other election commissioner is so appointed. At present the commission is a three member body.
Tenure:
- The Chief Election Commissioner or an Election Commissioner shall hold office for term of 6 years. However, if the Chief Election Commissioner or an Election Commissioner shall attained the age of 65 years, He shall vacate office on the date on which he attains the required age.
Method of removal of its members:
- The Chief Election Commissioner shall not be removed from office except in like manner as the judge of the supreme court. The other commissioners cannot be removed from office except on the recommendation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
