12. Manu is flying a kite from the top of his house which
is 25 m high. The string of the kite is 250 m long
when the kite got stuck to the top of the tower which
is at a distance of 70 m from the house. Find the
height of the tower.

The string of the kite and the part of the tower above the top of the house and the distance between the house and the tower form a right angled triangle. Hence, according to Pythagoras' theorem, the height of the tower above the top of the house can be found. Let this be x.

x²+(70)² = (250)²

x² = 62500 - 4900

x² = 57600

So x = 240m

Total height of tower is sum of height of tower above the top of the house and the height of the house (which is same as height of tower from ground to top of the house).

Height of tower = x + 25

Height of tower = 240 + 25 = 265m
