12 men can complete a work in 6 days

so, 12 mens one day work = 1/6
1 men's 1 day work = 1/(6×12) = 1/72

18 women can complete the same work in 8 days

so, 18 womens 1 day work = 1/8
1 women's 1 day work = 1/(8×18) = 1/144

they work together in how many days 16 men and 40 women can do thrice the work

so, 16 men's and 40 women's 1 day work = 16/72 + 40/144 = (32+40)/144 = 72/144 = 1/2

so, 16 men's and 40 women's whole work = 2 days

so, 16 men's and 40 women's work together to finish thrice the work = 2 × 3 = 6 days
