Let Number be x

12%of x = 8% of x + 20

=> (12/100)×x = (8/100)x + 20

=> x[(12/100)-(8/100)] = 20

=> x(4/100) = 20

=> x/25 = 20

=> x = 25×20 = 500

The Number is 500

Let the required number be x

12% of a number = \dfrac{x × 12}{100}

8% of the same number = \dfrac{x × 8}{100}

12% of a number exceed 8% percent of the number by 20.

According to the question,

\dfrac{x × 12}{100} = \dfrac{x × 8}{100} + 20

\dfrac{12x}{100} = \dfrac{8x}{100} + 20

\dfrac{12x}{100} - \dfrac{8x}{100} = 20

\dfrac{4x}{100} = 20

➾ 4x = 20 × 100

➾ 4x = 2000

➾ x = \dfrac{2000}{4}

➾ x = 500

∴ The number is 500
