let the cost of a pen be x and a kitkat be y.

A/Q: 12x+9y=399

4x+3y=?

12x+9y=399

y=399-12x/9

putting the value of y in eqn 2

4x+3(399-12x/9)

4x+(398-12x/3)

12x+399-12x/3

399/3=133
Or
(12x+9y=399)÷ 3

4x+3y=133.

So the cost of of 4 pens and 3 KitKat is Rs.133.
