Pitcher plants derive their nutrition by trapping insects in their vases. They are inectivorous plants, they have a strong odour on the inner walls of their vase which attracts insects into it... As soon as the insect enters the vase they close the lid and fill up the vase with digestive juices... when the insect is digested they again open up the vases in search of other insects.
