Given:
Force downwards = 5000 N
Force upwards = 5000 N
Force towards left = 1300 N
Force towards right = 1200 N
To Find: a.) Forces that cancel out, b.) Resultant force on lorry, c) effect will this resultant force on speed of lorry.
Calculation:
- For forces to cancel out each other, they should be equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. In the figure given below, the forces acting along the vertical axis, cancels out each other.
- The two forces that cancels each other are - upwards 5000 N and downwards 5000 N. Net force is balanced along vertical axis.
- So, the net force is zero along vertical axis. The force acting along horizontal axis = 1300 - 1200 = 100 Newton towards left direction.
- The resultant force towards left will accelerate the lorry in that direction and hence increase its speed.
Answer:
a. Upwards 5000 N and downwards 5000 N force will cancel out each other.
b. Resultant force is towards left direction with magnitude 100 N.
c. Speed of the lorry increases in the left direction.
