Let the two integers be x , y

→ x y = 2

Since they are successive integers

x = y + 1 ...(rejected)

y = x + 1 ...(taken)

→ x ( x + 1 ) = 2

→ x² + x = 2

→ x² + x = 2

→ x² + x - 2 = 0. [quadratic equation]

→ x² - x + 2x - 2 = 0

→ x(x - 1) + 2(x -1 ) = 0

→ (x - 1) (x + 2) = 0

→ x = 1 (or) x = -2

♦ y = x + 1 → -2 + 1 = -1

♦ y = x + 1 → 1 + 1 = 2

♦ y = -1 (or) 2

The both integers :- [ 1 or -2 ] (or) [ -1 or 2 ]
