was five-ninth the sum of their present ages. Ajay's
present age exceeds that of Bala by 20 years. Find

According to the above condition,

→ x + x - 20 = 5/9 * (x + 20 + x)

→ 2x - 20 = 5/9 * (2x + 20)

→ 2x - 20 = (10x + 100) / 9

→ 9 (2x - 20) = 10x + 100

→ 18x - 180 = 10x + 100

→ 18x - 10x = 100 + 180

→ 8x = 280

→ x = 35

Therefore,

  • Bala's present age = x = 35 years.

  • Ajay's present age = x + 20 = 35 + 20 = 55 years

Therefore, Ajay's present age is 55 years.
