12. Two years ago, Salim was thrice as old as his daughter and six years later, he will be four
years older than twice her age. How old are they now?​

Let the present age of salim be x and that of his daughter be y.

Two years ago ,age of Salim

 = x - 2

Age of daughter

 = y - 2

(x - 2) = 3(y - 2)

x - 3y =  - 4 ...............  (1)

After 6 years,

x + 6 = 4 + 2(y + 6)

x - 2y = 10...............(2)

Upon solving the above two equations we get

x-3y-(x-2y) = -4-(10)

-3y+2y=-14

y=14

x-2(y)=10

x-2×14=10

x=10+28

x=38

x = 38

y = 14
