Answer:

clinical thermometer is made up of mercury and as it has lowest melting point , it is used to show the readings or temperature of our body  and it us used to measure smaller range of temperature and it measures temperature only when it is in contact with our body and hence it cannot measure air temperature properly , it may give wrong values and clinical thermometer can be used for only clinical purposes because it is invented to do only such operations. Clinical thermometer does not have the ability to measure the temperature of air and its materials used do not support its use as a device to measure the temperature of air , for measuring the temperature of air there is a different device.

After a clinical thermometer has been used to record a patient's temperature, the mercury is prevented from contracting into the glass bulb by the constriction kink.Hence cannot be used to measure temperature of boiling water which is about 100 degree.
