Answer:

x = 3, y = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

let 1/x be a and 1/y be b

now statement will be like this

12a - 4b = 2 --- 1st equation

3a - 2b = 0 ----- 2nd "

BY SUBSTITUTUON METHOD ,

from 2nd , we get

3a - 2b = 0

3a = 2b

a = 2b / 3 ---- 3 rd equation

Now , put value of a in 1st

12a - 4b = 2

12 ( 2b / 3 ) - 4b = 0

3 is cancelled with 12 because 3 is divided by 2b, after division 4 will come which is mutiplied by 2b .

now it is like this

8b - 4b = 2

4b = 2

b = 2 / 4

b = 1/2

now , we put value of b in 3rd to get the value of a

a = 2b / 3

a = 2 / 3 * 1/ 2

2 is cancelled with 2 , then b is

a = 1 / 3

now as we let 1 /x = a , 1/y = b

1/x = 1/3 , 1/y = 1/ 2

so , x = 3 ,y = 2
