Question : There are 120 boys and 30 girls in an examination centre. What percentage are boys in the centre?

Answer :-

Total number of children = 120 + 30 = 150

Percentage formula =

 \frac{no \: of \: boys}{total}  \times 100

=

 \frac{120}{150}  \times 100

 =  \frac{12}{15}  \times 100

 \frac{1200}{15}

= 80 percentage.

Hence the percentage amount of boys is 80%.

Food for thought :-

  • This is how many examination centres such as JEE NEET and UPSC examiners find the boy is to girl ratio by comparing the percentage of boys with girls.
  • In IIT, the girl : boy ratio is 1:10.

Answer: 3) 80%

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Number of boys = 120

number of girls = 30

To find : percentage of boys

Total number of students = number of boys + number of girls

Hence total number of students = 120 + 30 = 150

To find percentage it is important to divide the number of boys at the examination centre by the total number of students at the centre multiplied by 100 which is considered as a whole.

Hence, percentage of boys at the examination centre = number of boys/ total number of students x 100

hence percentage of boys at the examination centre = 120/150 x 100

= 4/5 x 100

= 4 x 20

= 80

Hence percentage of boys at the examination centre is 80%.

Answer = 80%
