Answer :

1). Monday

How?

Solution :

To calculate the Year Code, use this formula:

(YY + (YY div 4)) mod 7

The Month Code

This is easy — just memorize the number 033614625035:

January = 0

February = 3

March = 3

April = 6

May = 1

June = 4

July = 6

August = 2

September = 5

October = 0

November = 3

December = 5

So firstly, we have to calculate codes to find out the day.

Concept:

We have to find the number of odd days till 1862 from 1600 assuming the number of odd days in 1600 years is 0.

The codes for days are,

  • Sunday - 0
  • Monday - 1
  • Tuesday - 2
  • Wednesday - 3
  • Thursday - 4
  • Friday - 5
  • Saturday - 6

There is 5 odd days for each century.

Odd days equals the remainder in the division of the number of days by 7 (since 1 week = 7 days)

Given:

Given the date is 12th January 1863.

Find:

We have to find the day of the week for above mentioned date in that year.

Solution:

Up to 1600 there is 0 odd days

Up to 1800, the number of odd days = 5*2 = 10/7 = 3 days (since 1800-1600 = 200 years = 2 centuries)

Up to 1863, there is more 63 years in that 62 years, there is 15 leap years and 47 ordinary years.

Number odd days in each ordinary year is 1 and for leap year the same is 2.

So the number of odd days in that = 15*2 + 47*1 = 30+47 = 77/7 = 0 odd days.

Up to 12 th January there are 12 days so number of odd days = 12/7 = 5

So the total number of odd days = 3 + 0 + 5 = 8/7 = 1

So according to code the day for 12th January 1863 is Monday.

Hence 12th January 1863 was on (1) Monday.
