This is a question on probability.

Probability = Number of events / total number of occurrences

The multiples of 3 and 5 between 1 and 20 is :

= for 3 is : 3 ,6 , 9, 12 , 15, 18

For 5 : 5 , 10 ,15 ,20

the probability of getting a multiple of 3 = 6/20

The probability of getting a multiple of 5 = 4/20

The probability of getting either a multiple of 3 or 5 is :

P(multiple of 3) + P( multiple of 5)

= 6/20 + 4/20 = 10/20 = 1/2

= 1/2
