Given that,

AB is longer than BC

AB=X+8

BC=X

So,

40cm=2(X+8+X)

40. =4X+16

40-16=4x

4X= 40-16

= 24

X=24/4

= 6

BC=X= 6

AB= X+ 8

=6+8

=14
