5 days later they find that they had completed only 40% of the work.

To Find  : the number of hours per day that they need to work in order to achieve the target.

Solution:

64 men working 8 hours a day for 5 days

Hence Work done = 64 * 8 * 5 = 64  * 40  hrs

Let say total Work = W hrs

Work Done = 40 % of the work

(40/100) W  = 64 * 40

=> W = 64 * 100  hrs

Remaining  Work  = 64 * 100 - 64 * 40

= 64 * 60  hrs

Remaining days = 4

Work done in a hr = H

Men = 64

Hence Work Done = 64 * 4 * H   hrs

64 * 4 * H  =  64 * 60

=> 4 * H = 60

=> H = 15

They need to work 15 hrs per day in order to achieve the target.
