 \frac{ - 13}{9} + \frac{ (- 40)}{9} \\ = \frac{ - 13 + ( - 40)}{9} \\ = \frac{ - 13 - 40}{9} \\ = \frac{ - 53}{9} ans...

dna63: okay
dna63: wait a bit
dna63: -11/5+(-17/15)=-33+(-17)/15=-33-17/15=-50/15=-10/3 ans....
mastermind31: here we need to do LCM. so, -11/5 + -17/15 here LCM is 15 so , multiply 5 and numerator with such a number that you get 15 . its 3 so -11/5×3 + -17/15 = -33/15 + -17/15 = -33+(-17)/15 = -50 / 15= -10/3
beenahdatta: WRONG
beenahdatta: ITS -51/15
mastermind31: ya it is . because we simplified it that's why it is -10 /3
mastermind31: but it is -50/15 not -51/15
beenahdatta: OH
beenahdatta: THANKS

while adding or subtracting rational number follow these steps:-

-13/9 + -40/9

= -13+(-40)/9

= -53/9

hence -53/9 is the answer.
