13. A, B and C can do a piece
of work in 8 days, 10 days and
12 days respectively. They
started working together.
After working for 1 day A left
the work while after 2 days A
joins and B left the work.
After 3 days B joins and Cleft
the work. There is holiday
after 4 days and after 5th day
they again started working
together and so. In how many
days work would be finished?

Answer:

After 2 days the amount of work done will be 2/10 + 2/8 + 2/12=1/5 + 1/4 + 1/6=12+15+10/60=37/60. This leaves 23/60 to be done. Then:

23/60 / 1/8=46/15 days for B to finish alone

step by step -

Let Total Work = LCM(10,8,12) = 120 units

A completes 12 units per day

B completes 15 units per day

C completes 10 units per day

Together, they can complete 37 units per day.

Work completed in 2 days = 37 x 2 = 74 units.

Remaining work = 120 - 74 = 46 units

B can complete this in 46/15 = 3 1/15 days
