A) Holozoic Nutrition

A specialised digestive system is involved. Example: human beings and cow.

Saprophytic NutritionOrganisms lack specialised digestive system. They produce enzymes, that digest the organic matter outside the cell. Digested nutrients are absorbed into cell. Example : Certain bacteria and fungi etc.

B) The liver digests food by producing bile to break down fats, removing toxins and breaking down and storing some vitamins and minerals. The pancreas produces enzymes to help break down proteins, fats and carbohydrates.

C) The organ in the body that functions in the absorption of food and water is the intestine. The small intestine (ileum, duodenum and jejunum) is largely involved in absorption of almost all the nutrients and minerals necessary for normal body function.

1) Absorption of digested food

16d) Bile does not contain any enzyme but it is essendal for digestion because bile is alkaline and contain salts which helps to emulsify the fat present in the food. So, the bile perform two functions: The food coming from the stomach is acidic and has to be made alkaline for the pancreatic enzymes to act.
