13. A man lends Rs.1800 to two persons at the rate of 4% and 4% simple interest p.a. respectively. At the end of 6 years, he receives Rs. 462 from them. How much did he lend to each other? [Assam H.S. 1986]​

Let ‘x’ be the amount given to first person and ‘y’ be the amount given to the second person.

Interest from first person for six years = x * 4 * 6/100 = 0.24x

Interest from second person for six years = x * 4.5 * 6/100 = 0.27x

Now x + y = N1800

0.24x + 0.27 x = N462

solving we get,

0.24x + 0.24y = N432

0.24x + 0.27y = N462

Hence 0.03y = N30

y = 30/0.03 = N1000

x = 1800 -1000 = N800
