let 3+ root 5 is a rational no.

3 + root 5 = p/q ( where p and q are integers and q is not = 0 )

root 5 = p/q - 3/1

root 5 = p - 3q/q

and we know that root 5 is an irrational no.

hence our contradictions the fact that 3 + root 5 is a rational no.

our supposition is wrong

therefore, 3 + root 5 is an irrational no.
