Answer:
- Incidentally, the poem gives the message that 'barking dogs seldom bite'. Those who boast of their bravery are rarely brave. All the brave were scared and ran away at the sight of the pirate except Custard who said he was a coward but proved to be the bravest.
The poem entitled "The tale of Custard the Dragon" is a light verse composed by an American poet 'Fedric Ogden Nash.' The poem is composed with a perfect rhyme scheme throughout (aabb). The the characters present in the poem are - 'Belinda' the mistress of the White House and her pets Ink , Blink , Mustard and Custard ; who were kitten, a mouse , a dog and a dragon respectively . The poet in different stanzas of the poem has brought out the characteristic features of the different pets. We get to know from the different stanzas of the poem that Belinda, the mistress was as brave as a barrel full of bears , Ink and Blink were brave enough to chase lions down the stairs and Mustard was as brave as a tiger in our rage. However, the fiery Dragon was a coward who always asked for a nice safe cage to live in. This character of the Dragon earned him the name of Custard and all the pets including the mistress Belinda troubled Custard the Dragon mercilessly and also made fun of him. However the Dragon was quite patients and accepted this rude behaviour of his companion. Custard, however broke the eyes when the house was attacked by a pirate and proved his bravery by gobbling up the pirate when all the others run away and hide themselves in safe corners. Therefore, we can rightly conclude by saying that the given statement is justified. Apparently Custard seemed to be a coward but he was able to prove himself at the right point of time.
