Given Equation is (k + 1)x + 8y = 2

= > (k + 1)x + 8y - 2 = 0 ------- (1)

Given Equation is 2x + (k + 1)y = 1

= > 2x + (k + 1)y - 1 = 0 -------- (2)

a1 = (k + 1), b1 = 8, c1 = -2

a2 = 2, b2 = (k + 1), c2 = -1

Given that the Equations represent parallel lines:

= > (a1/a2) = (b1/b2)

= > (k + 1)/2 = (8)/k + 1

= > (k + 1)^2 = 16

= > k + 1 = 4

= > k = 3.

Therefore the value of k = 3.

Hope this helps!
