Let one of the numbers be x then since they are consecutive the other must be (x+1)

Now,
According to question we have,
x(x+1) =306

 {x}^{2} + x - 306 = 0\\ {x}^{2} - 18x + 17x - 306 = 0 \\ x(x - 18) - 17(x - 18) = 0 \\ (x - 18)(x - 17) = 0

Since the product is 0 one of the values must be 0 too.
Therefore x = 18 and 17.
