let the original side of square is = x ...

therefore original area = x × x

new side x' = x + 25 percent of x

x' = x ( 1 + 25 / 100)

x' = 5x /4

new area =( 5 x / 4) × (5x/4)

= 25 x^2/ 16

change in area = new area - original area

= x^2( (25/16) - 1)

= 9 x^2/ 16

percentage increase

=(( 9 x^2/16) / x^2 ) × 100

= 56.25 percent
