This is because in metals, as we go down, size increases i.e, it becomes farther from the nucleus Hence, it becomes easier to lose an electron. But in non metals as the size increases, it becomes away from the nucleus and the nucleus has not much control on the valence shell. Hence, it is difficult to accept an electron. Hence,In a group reactivity of metals increases while those of non metals decreases.
