Answer:

168 sheep's are in the herd

Step-by-step explanation:

FIRSTLY;

Let the total number of sheep's in the herd be equal to a variable. Example;x

SECONDLY;

Let your of in the question be multiplication .Thus by the total number of herds represented by your variable.

THIRDLY;

As already said;

1/3x = playing

then,your remaining =your total minus your the number playing.Thus; x-1x/3.

Furthermore, multiply your result by the five eight .Thus; 2x/3 ×5/8 ending up to get 10x/24 which will be the number grazing on the field.

FOURTHLY;

Add all your result in the aforementioned steps and do any further calculation to arrive at your answer.

CALCULATION

Let;

x be the total number of sheep's.

1/3x =Sheep's playing.

remaining = x-1x/3=2x/3

now;2x/3 × 5/8 = 10x/8 .For number grazing on the field

Also;the rest be your 42=drinking water.

so;your number of sheep's in the herd is;

1/3x+10x + 42 = x

L.C.M= 24

24 × x/3 +24 ×10x/24 + 24 × 42 = 24 × x

8x + 10x + 1008 =24x

GROUPING LIKED TERMS

1008=24x - 18x

1008 = 6x

1008/6 = 6x/6

1008/6 = x

x= 168

Therefore the total number of sheep's in the herd is 168
