Step-by-step explanation:

average age means

(a+b)/2=30

a-man's age

b-son's age

So,

a+b=60..(i)

As per question

a:b=4:1

a=4b...(ii)

putting value of a from eq.ii in eq.i

4b+b=60

b=12 years

let the age of son be x

fathers age will be 4x

according to question

4x+x/2=30

5x=60

x=60/5

x=12
