13. The ratio of the areas of cross-section of two rods of
different materials is 1 : 2 and the ratio of the thermal
conductivities of their materials is 4: 3. On keeping
equal temperature-difference between the ends of
these rods, the rate of conduction of heat are equal.
Determine the ratio of the lengths of the rods.

Answer:

L1 : L2 = 2:3

Explanation:

Given,

A1/A2 = 1/2

K1/K2 = 4/3

Change Temperature is equal. (∆T1 = ∆T2)

Since,

 \frac{k1 \: a1 \: ∆t}{l1}  =  \frac{k2 \: a2 \: ∆t}{l2}

 \frac{l1}{l2}  =  \frac{4}{3}  \times  \frac{1}{2}

 \frac{l1}{l2}  =  \frac{2}{3}

Therefore,

l1:l2 = 2:3
