A doctor and a dietician are discussing a perfect diet plan for children for their all round healthy development and growth.
Doctor: What should be done to encourage children to eat healthy nutritious diet? They run away from healthy diet. They are crazy about junk food! What should be done?
Dietician: I agree with you! But we the elders can play a very crucial role in influencing their eating habits. Parents, teachers, doctors, and dieticians must join hands.
Doctor: What can we do?
Dietician: We can counsel them; parents should only give them nutritious food; they should tell them the harms of fast food, chips, candies, chocolates, etc. Teachers too can play a great role. At schools they should teach the children that nutritious foods are exceedingly crucial for them.
Doctor: By the way which foods are really good for children?
Dietician: Balanced, nutritious diets comprising essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamins, minerals, fibers, etc are must for children. Protein foods like fish, meat and eggs, starchy foods supplying carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables and milk and dairy foods are very good for children. They should preferably be given natural milk, yogurts, etc. Flavored foods must be avoided. For changing the flavor we may add natural fruits in them such as grated pear, stewed fruit or fresh fruits etc.
Doctor: Are there some other tasty foods that we can recommend for children?
Dietician: Yes, children should be given tasty treats, but we must ensure they are highly nutritious. For example, they can be given dried fruit – such as figs and raisins, raw vegetables such as carrot, cucumber, celery, cherry tomatoes, and pieces of cheese with crackers.
Doctor: Wow! You have really given a very valuable information. I think this information must be passed on to all parents.
