Given that,

2x + 3y = 17 ...(i)

2x + 2 - 3y + 1 = 5

⇒ 2x - 3y + 3 = 5

⇒ 2x - 3y = 5 - 3

⇒ 2x - 3y = 2 ...(ii)

Now, adding (i) and (ii), we get

4x = 19

⇒ x = 19/4

Now, putting x = 19/4 in (i), we get

2 (19/4) + 3y = 17

⇒ 3y = 17 - 19/2

⇒ 3y = (34 - 19)/2

⇒ 3y = 15/2

⇒ y = 5/2

∴ the required solution be

x = 19/4 and y = 5/2

Answer:

  1. 2+3y=17
  2. 3y=17-2
  3. 3y=15
  4. y=15/3
  5. y=5

  1. 2x+2-3y+1=5
  2. 2x+3-3y=5
  3. 2x-3y=5-3
  4. 2x-3y=2
  5. x-y=2/2×3
  6. x-y=1/3
