14. A circular track has a circumference of 3140 m
with AB as one of its diameter. A scooterist moves
from A to B alone the circular path with a uniform
speed of 10 m/s. Find
(a) distance covered by the scooterist,
(b) displacement of the scooterist, and
(c) time taken by the scooterist in reaching from
A to B.

Answer:

Given,

Circumference of circular track=2=3140m

where r=radius of circle

Now according to question,Scooter moves from a to b along the circular path (where ab is diameter).It means scooter completes half a revolution(circumference/2).

So,

Distance travelled=The actual path traversed by scooter=2/2=3140/2=1570 m

Again,

Displacement=The shortest distance travelled by scooter(Final position-Initial position)=Diameter of the circle=2r

Since 2=3140m (here =3.14)

2r=3140/3.14=1000 m.

To calculate the time taken by the scooter in reaching from a to b,we have a formula

Speed=Distance/Time

Time=Distance/Speed=1570/10=157 seconds.
