14. A cuboidal block of metal measuring 45 cm x 30 cm x 0.5 m was melted and recast into cubical
each with an edge of length 3 cm.

Answer:

Volume of cuboid = l * b * h

Hence volume of the cuboid =

675 cm³

Now, volume of cube of edge 3 cm =

(Volume of cube = (length of edge)³) = 3³

= 27 cm³

1. - Hence the number of cubes that can be made

= 675 ÷ 27

= 25 cubes.

2. - Total surface area of cube = 6 × (length of edge)²

= 6 × 3²

= 6 × 9

= 54 cm²

Hence the total surface area of all cubes =

54 × 25

= 1350 cm²

Rate of polishing surface = 31.25 rupees per cm

Cost = 1350 × 31.25 rupees per cm

= 42,187.5 rupees.
