Question :-

Assertion : Colour of Copper Sulphate does not change when Iron nail is dipped into it.

Reason : Iron is more reactive than Copper Sulphate and it displaces it.

a) Both Assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

b) Both Assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

c) Assertion is true and reason is false

d) Assertion is false and reason is true

Required Answer :-

When Iron nail is dipped into the copper sulphate solution. Reaction between Copper sulphate solutipn and iron takes place. In this reaction iron is capable of displacing copper from copper sulphate solution , since it is more reactive compared to the copper. This reaction also results in the change of colour of the solution. \\

Now , Observing Both assertion and reason we can conclude that Assertion is incorrect and reason is true.So , Option(d) is the answer.

  • Colour of copper sulphate does not change when iron nail is dipped into it.

\bf\pink{Assertion\:is\:\underline{wrong}}. \\

When an iron nail immersed in the solution of copper sulphate then iron displaces copper from the solution of copper sulphate because iron is more reactive than copper.

✔ Therefore copper sulphate solution colour changes from blue to pale green.

  • Iron is more reactive than copper sulphate and it displaces it.

\bf\pink{Reason\:is\:\underline{correct }}. \\

We know that Iron is placed above copper in the activity series. Thus iron is more reactive than copper.

✔ Iron displaces copper ions from an aqueous solution of copper sulphate. It is a single displacement reaction of one metal by another metal.
