To find :

  • How many incorrect answer had they attempted .

Solution :

Rohan answered 8 answers correct

Mark for correct answers = 8 * 5 = 40

Total Mark - 15

Marks for incorrect answers = 40

- (-15) = 55

Question incorrect answers attempted

= 55/2 = 27.5

Answer:

(i) Rohan got 8 answers wrong.

(ii) Smitha got 15 answers wrong.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

For a correct answer, +5 marks will be awarded to a student. And -2 marks will be awarded to the person for the incorrect answer.

Rohan scored 24 marks in total on a test, although he got 8 correct answers.

Smitha scored -15 marks in total on a test, although she got 3 correct answers.

To find,

The incorrect answers were answered by both of them.

Calculation,

(i) Rohan's case:

Let 'x' be the incorrect answer answered by Rohan.

As he answered all the questions then:

Marks for correct answers - marks of incorrect answers = marks he got

8(5) - x(2) = 24

⇒ 40 - 2x = 24

⇒ x = 8

Therefore, Rohan got 8 answers wrong.

(ii) Smitha's case:

Let 'y' be the incorrect answers answered by Smitha.

As she answered all the questions then:

Marks for correct answers - marks of incorrect answers = marks she got

3(5) - y(2) = -15

⇒ 15 - 2y = -15

⇒ y = 15

Therefore, Smitha got 15 answers wrong.
