It is a thermoplastic having melting point above 300 °C. At normal conditions it doesn't melts, direct decomposition occurs.

Uses of Polyacrylonitrile

PAN is used as a precursor for carbon fiber production. These carbon fibers are then mostly used in body air frames of airplanes.

Other uses are of making tents, socks, sweaters etc.
