14. The reaction time for an automobile driver is
0.7 sec. If the automobile can be decelerated
at 5 m/s2 calculate the total distance travelled
in coming to stop from an initial velocity of
8.33 m/s after a signal is observed.

Explanation:

Initial velocity= 8.33m/s

Final velocity= 0m/s

Acceleration = 5m/s2

Time taken = 0.7s

Distance traveled= ut+ 1/2at^2

S= 8.33×0.7+ 1/2×5×0.7^2

S= 5.831+5/2×0.49

S= 5.831+5×0.245

S=5.831+1.225

S=7.056

Therefore, Distance traveled = 7.056m

= 7m (approx)
