Given : the parking charges at Jewel Changi Airport.

Jackie parked his car at Jewel Changi Airport for t minutes.

he spent not more than $20 on parking charges,

To  find : the maximum possible value of t.

Solution:

Charges for 1st 90 minutes = $0.04  per minute

=> charges for 90 minutes = 90 x 0.04  =   3.6$

Spent on charging = 20 $

Remaining charges   <  20 - 3.6 = 16.4$

Charges for 30 minutes or part of it  =  $5

let say he used n slot of 30 minutes hence charges  = 5n

5n ≤  16.4

=> n ≤ 3.28

=> n = 3

as n must be integer

so 3 slots of 30 minutes + 90 minutes initially

so total time = 3 * 30 + 90  = 180 minutes

Maximum possible value of t  = 180
