Answer:

Let the present age of Ram be x and the present age of Pankaj be y.

Case 1 :

Ram is 4 times the age of Pankaj before 14 years.

Hence, x-14 = 4(y-14)

⇒ x-14 = 4y-56

⇒ x-4y = -56+14

⇒ x-4y = -42

⇒ x-4y+42 = 0 — (1)

Case 2 :

Ram is twice the age of Pankaj at present.

So, x = 2y — (2)

Using equation (2) in equation (1),

⇒ x-4y+42 = 0

⇒ 2y-4y+42 = 0

⇒ -2y = -42

⇒ 2y = 42

⇒ y = 42/2

⇒ y = 21 — (3)

Now, Using equation (3) in equation (2),

⇒ x = 2(21)

⇒ x = 42

Hence, the present age of Ram = x = 42.

And, the present age of Pankaj = y = 21.

Given :--

14 years ago Ram was 4 timmes the age of Pankaj. If the present age of Ram is twice the age of Pankaj

To Find :--

Total present ages

Solution :--

Let the age of Ram be r and Pankaj be p

Ram is twice to Pankaj

r = 2p

Now

14 years ago Ram was 4 times than Pankaj

r - 14 = 4(p - 14)

r - 14 = 4p - 56

2p - 14 = 4p - 56

2p - 4p = 14 - 56

-2p = -42

p = -42/-2

p = 42/2

p = 21

Age of Ram

r = 2p

r = 2(21)

r = 42 years
