A poor woman once came to Buddha to ask him whether he could give her any
medicine to restore her dead child to life. The holy man, touched by the great sorrow of the
woman, told her that there was only one medicine which could revive (fepas mezi) her son. He
bade her to bring a handful of mustard-seeds from a house where death had never entered. The
sorrowing mother went from door to door seeking the mustard-seeds, but at every door she met
with sad replies. One said, “I have lost my husband,' Another said, “Our youngest child died last
year.” She returned with a heavy heart to the preacher and told him the result of her request.
Then Buddha told her tenderly that she must not think much of her own grief, since death and
sorrow are common to all.

SUMMARY
Once upon a time in a far away land, there was a woman who had lost her only son. She was so depressed and desperate to bring back her child, she ran to lord Buddha and begged him to revive her child. He softly replied that there was only one way to revive her son. If she could bring him mustard seeds from such a household where sorrow had never touched the door, he would revive her child. The desperate woman immediately went on a search for such mustard seeds. She knocked every door she could find but the effort was in vain. All she heard was sorrow and agony. Finally, after losing all her hope, she returned to lord and shared her adventure. He smiled at her with sympathy and explained her that we all are binded by sorrow. It was something no one could avoid for long. One way or the other everyone had faced traumatic experiences in their life.
