The presence of two types of charges can be shown by a few simple experiments. When the glass rod is rubbed on the silk cloth the glass rod becomes positively charged since it loses electrons to the silk cloth. The silk cloth becomes egatively charged. When another lass rod charged in a similar way is rought closer to this glass rod it ets repelled. Since like charges epel each other.

Similarly, when an ebonite rod is rubbed on fur. Ebonite gains electrons and becomes negatively charged and fur will be positively charged. When the charged glass rod and ebonite rod are hung near each other they will attract each other ince they have the opposite harges.
